Message I was not aware of this article by MotoIQ, but never the less, informative!
Yes, the whole idea behind the close-out panels (both vertical and horizontal) is to force more air through the cooling systems, separate the airflows going to the IC's and radiator.
I already have a Howe aluminum higher capacity radiator, the close-outs were built as insurance measures for when I take the car out for track days...
